Witness, 2018
Miranda Kuo Gallery, NYC

In an interview from 1984 James Baldwin proclaimed, "I am a witness...witness to what I've seen and the possibilities that I think I see...In the church in which I was raised, you were supposed to bear witness to the truth." In her talk at the New School in 2015 entitled Moving From Pain to Power bell hooks observed, "the abused child can survive if they have a witness.” To bear witness is to affirm a person’s truth, to hold their pain, to validate their lived experience. Witness that invites the audience to to bear witness to the precarity of Black life and death in America.
