Where Will The Poor Go (#WhereWillThePoorGo) is a site-specific, public performance project that questions the rampant displacement of poor people from their communities. In the first installment performers dressed in trash bags and boxes with signs that read "Where will the poor go?." We traveled through Bushwick and Harlem, two rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods in New York. The performance ended in front of a future Whole Foods being developed on the corner of125th St and Malcolm X Blvd. A diverse cross section of Harlem's community - old residents, recent transplants, and police officers - engaged and activated the performance in an impromptu public dialogue about the harmful effects of development and gentrification in poor Black neighborhoods.
